E911 Emergency Service Terms and Disclaimer
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTICE
VoIP-based 911 emergency service operates differently than traditional landline telephone service. Please read and understand these terms carefully before activating your service.
How VoIP 911 Service Works
When you dial 911 from your PJL Telecom VoIP phone service, your call is routed to the appropriate emergency services based on the E911 service address you provide during registration. This address must be accurate and current at all times.
Service Limitations
You acknowledge and understand the following limitations of VoIP 911 service:
- Power Outages: VoIP service requires electrical power and internet connectivity. During a power outage, your VoIP phone service, including 911 calling, will not function unless you have backup power (battery backup or generator) for both your internet modem/router and VoIP equipment.
- Internet Outages: If your internet service is interrupted for any reason, you will not be able to make calls, including 911 emergency calls.
- Address Accuracy: Emergency responders rely on the E911 service address you provide. If this address is incorrect, incomplete, or outdated, emergency services may be delayed or unable to locate you.
- Portable Service: If you move your VoIP equipment to a different location, you must update your E911 service address immediately. Failure to do so may result in emergency services being dispatched to your old address.
- Network Congestion: During periods of high network traffic or emergency situations, VoIP 911 calls may experience delays or connection issues.
Your Responsibilities
By activating VoIP service with E911, you agree to:
- Provide Accurate Information: Submit complete and accurate E911 service address information, including street address, apartment/unit number (if applicable), city, state, and ZIP code.
- Update Your Address: Immediately update your E911 service address if you move or relocate your VoIP equipment to a different physical location. Address updates can be made by logging into your account at billing.pjltelecom.com or by contacting customer support.
- Inform Users: Notify all users of your VoIP service (family members, employees, guests) about these 911 limitations and ensure they understand how to contact emergency services.
- Maintain Alternative Access: Keep an alternative means of accessing emergency services available, such as a mobile phone or traditional landline.
- Test Your Service: Verify that your VoIP equipment is functioning properly and that you have reliable internet connectivity.
📱 Backup Emergency Communication: We strongly recommend keeping a charged mobile phone or alternative communication method available at all times for emergency situations.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you acknowledge and agree that:
