Most motel phone systems were installed a long time ago and have been running quietly in a closet ever since. That works right up until a card fails, the person who programmed it retires, or the phone company tells you the copper lines are going away.
PJL Telecom replaces that setup with a managed, hosted phone system. Your room phones stay where they are. The front desk gets new phones that arrive already set up. And you pay one flat rate for the property instead of a charge for every room.
We already do this work on live properties. PJL currently runs the phone systems for three Motel 6 properties in Southern California, so the problems on this page are ones we work on, not ones we read about.
Independent motels and franchise economy properties in the Motel 6, Super 8 and Days Inn mold, run by owners who want the phones handled and a bill that doesn't grow with the room count.
Replacement parts for older systems are hard to find, and fewer technicians know how to program them. A hosted system removes the box from the equation. Changes like a new extension or a different after-hours greeting are made remotely, and that is part of the managed service.
Carriers in many areas are shutting down traditional copper phone lines, and the replacement they offer is often more expensive. Moving to a hosted system means your calls run over your internet connection, and your existing numbers come with you.
A lot of phone plans charge for every phone or every room. On a motel, that means paying for dozens of lines that mostly sit quiet. We charge a flat base rate per property, starting at $125 a month, plus actual usage. No per-room fees and no per-user fees.
Federal rules require that guests can dial 911 without a prefix, that someone on site is notified when they do, and that responders get a location they can act on. Many older motel systems were set up for "dial 9 first." We set up direct 911 dialing, front desk notification and room-level location as part of the conversion. Our Kari's Law checklist covers the details.
You run the property. We handle the phones.
Room count, what system you have now, and which lines you need to keep. The quote builder gives you a monthly estimate in about a minute.
We set up room extensions, wake-up calls, the front desk, voicemail and 911 handling, and we port your numbers for you at no charge.
Analog gateways go in the telco closet and connect to your existing room wiring. Front desk phones arrive pre-configured. Plug them in and they work.
Everything a motel front desk uses day to day, set up and managed for you. PMS integration is available as a quoted add-on if your property management system supports it.
Service is month-to-month with no long-term contract, and it is backed by a 99.99% uptime SLA. The SLA excludes scheduled maintenance and problems with your own network or internet connection.
No. Your existing analog room phones stay. We connect them to the hosted system through Grandstream analog gateways (ATAs) installed in your telco closet, so nobody has to go room to room swapping hardware.
You pay a flat base rate per property, starting at $125 a month, plus actual calling usage. There is no charge per room and no charge per user. Larger properties move into a higher flat tier, but you are never billed room by room.
The system is built for it. Guests dial 911 directly with no prefix, the front desk is notified when a 911 call is placed, and the call carries a dispatchable location down to the room. We set this up as part of the conversion and walk you through testing it.
We plan for them as part of the conversion. Fire alarm panel lines and elevator emergency phones can be moved onto the system, and we coordinate the cutover with your alarm monitoring company so those lines are tested before anything else changes.
No. We port your existing numbers for you at no charge, including the main line printed on your listings and booking sites. Guests keep calling the same number.
No. Service is month-to-month. If it stops working for you, you can leave.
